Priyanka Chopra: Caught in the Middle of Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner’s Divorce
Divorce is often ugly, brutal, and awkward. Indian actress Priyanka Chopra is quickly finding out that the collateral damage extends to sisters-in-law like her. As the wife of Nick, Joe Jonas’ brother, she shares a close relationship with Sophie Turner. Now that Joe and Sophie are separating, Priyanka finds herself torn by the couple’s decision to divorce.
According to a Life & Style insider, 41-year-old Priyanka had felt such an affinity with Sophie that there was a time when she believed that she, Joe, Nick, and Sophie would all move to London. The source said, “Priyanka loves Sophie and her nieces and doesn’t want to do anything to jeopardize them being in her life.”
Recall that during one of Priyanka’s interviews in 2019, the Citadel star told Elle that she sees Sophie as the sister she never had. The star continued, “Sophie is super talented, super funny, and we have the most fun when we go out together. She’s incredible. By the time this comes out, she’ll be the new Mrs. Jonas. I can’t wait for her to join the family.”
Twenty-seven-year-old Sophie, best known for her role as Sansa Stark in The Game of Thrones, recently shared that the divorce filed by Joe blindsided her. On top of everything, Joe was refusing to allow Sophie to travel with their two daughters—3-year-old Willa and 12-months-old Delphine—so they could return home to the UK. This was despite the fact that he previously agreed to the journey.
In a sudden turn of events, Taylor Swift, who had a brief relationship with Joe in 2008, proactively reached out to Sophie and invited her to a girls’ night out in New York. It’s believed that Sophie and her two daughters are staying in one of Taylor’s properties.
Based on news about their divorce, the two are still working out the details, especially regarding the custody of their children. Joe has reportedly requested a 50-50 custody arrangement.
Making matters worse is their publicized battles due to the divorce. During their trial scheduled for January 2, many expect that things will get even uglier between the former lovebirds.
In Joe’s legal filing, he described how their three years of marriage deteriorated quickly, starting in August when he caught Sophie doing or saying something through their Ring camera. Though it has yet to be revealed what the footage consisted of, close friends of Joe have said that whatever he saw was a major reason for the divorce.
Joe also gave the public a picture of Sophie partying too hard and having different priorities other than their family. He has painted a picture where he takes care of their daughters most of the time despite being on tour with his brothers.
Sophie, on the other hand, fought back by filing her lawsuit in New York under the international child abduction laws after Joe refused to turn over their children’s passports for their trip to England.
As a compromise, Sophie has been requested to stay in New York until their divorce has been finalized.
