Usher Reveals Who First Knew About Super Bowl Halftime Show
Usher is spilling the beans on his upcoming performance at the 2024 Super Bowl halftime show. In a recent interview with Extra’s Mona Kosar Abdi, the acclaimed singer known for hits like Good Good and My Boo, candidly shared his excitement and the challenges of keeping this electrifying secret.
Before the big reveal in September, Usher entrusted only one person with this monumental news – none other than Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour. He confessed, “My family didn’t know. My sons did not know. I tried to tell my daughter. She just ran off. She didn’t care. I was like, ‘I got to tell you a secret.'”
Usher, 45, disclosed, “I called her and I said, ‘Hey, I gotta tell you something,’ and I shared it with her early. And the first thing she says, ‘Well, what are you wearing?'”
But the excitement doesn’t end there. The Good Kisser singer hinted at a special surprise for his fans during the halftime show. He teased, “I’ve also collaborated with a lot of people in the process, so… there’s a celebration there.”
Speaking about the performance, Usher passionately declared, “If you’ve had the opportunity to come see my show, you understand it’s really a celebration of our culture, a celebration of what we’ve come from, a celebration of the places I’ve come from… I’m going to pull all of those things and then some into this performance.”
The announcement of Usher’s headlining gig came through a video shared on X (formerly known as Twitter), where TV personality and SKIMS founder Kim Kardashian delivered the exciting news. This Super Bowl appearance will be Usher’s second, as he previously graced the stage alongside the Black Eyed Peas in 2011.
Reflecting on this incredible opportunity, the singer shared, “It’s an honor of a lifetime to finally check a Super Bowl performance off my bucket list. I can’t wait to bring the world a show unlike anything else they’ve seen from me before.” He also expressed his gratitude to his fans and everyone involved in making this momentous occasion possible, concluding, “Thank you to the fans and everyone who made this opportunity happen. I’ll see you real soon.”
