Bernie had hinted at the possibility of a new project when discussing his Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame induction earlier in the year. “We’ve got some plans laid that can’t really be discussed right now,” Taupin had teased in May, leaving fans speculating about what the future held.
In a more recent interview with PEOPLE, Bernie confirmed that he and John would “definitely make another record.” Despite John recently concluding his lengthy farewell tour, Taupin assured fans, saying, “There’s no doubt about that. Just because he isn’t touring doesn’t mean he is fading to black. He’s still going to be very much active in other areas.”
Bernie also sympathized with John’s desire to step away from touring and spend more time with his family, recognizing that family is a priority for both of them. The songwriter added, “That was the intent of doing the tour, because he wanted to spend more time with his kids. They’re at an age now where I think he needs to be present and whatever he does, and however he works now, he can be in a situation where the kids are either present, or he can go back and forth and see them. It’s all good.”
