Anne Hathaway Speaks About Balancing Family And Career With Grace
Anne Hathaway is known for her talent on the silver screen. However, behind the scenes, she is equally dedicated to her family, husband Adam Shulman, and their two sons, Jack and Jonathan. In an exclusive interview, the Oscar-winning actress opened up about the delicate balance she maintains between her personal and professional life.
“It’s something I feel is not just essential for my health – I’m on a team, it’s my family, and it’s not just about me,” she shared.
Anne, a proud New Yorker, emphasizes the importance of allowing her children to define their own lives. “My family has needs, and one of the needs of children is that they need to be able to define their own lives,” she explained, adding, “It doesn’t even occur to me to link the two up, except through gratitude that they serve each other so beautifully. But they serve each other through me, and not through a space that’s outside of myself.”
During an event celebrating her Shiseido ambassadorship in September, the Love & Other Drugs actress also discussed her journey post-pregnancy, shedding light on a topic often left unspoken. “It takes three years for your body to fully recover from a pregnancy,” she revealed.
“I didn’t snap back. I want to very, very clear about that. With my second, it took every minute of those three years. And it’s cool. Let your body be a body,” she shared further.
Anne’s perspective on life has evolved since becoming a mother. During an appearance on Sirius XM’s The Jess Cagle Show, she shared how her children have become the driving force behind her career choices. According to her, the arrival of her kids reshaped her priorities and made her more selective and unwilling to spend time away from home unless the project is really exceptional.
In her own words: “I have to say, the ‘kids’ thing has been the biggest shift. That’s kind of re-prioritized everything, so it’s actually made me a bit choosier because something really has to be so excellent to spend time away from them because they’re so precious to me.”
“They’re the most sacred part of my life by a long shot. And then when I do accept something, it puts greater pressure on me to make it worth the time that I’ve spent away from them,” the Interstellar actress said further.
