Travis Kelce Opens Up About The Scrutiny That Comes With Relationship With Taylor Swift
Travis Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs’ star tight end, is experiencing a whole new level of fame since going public with his relationship with pop sensation Taylor Swift last month. While Travis was already a renowned figure on the football field, dating an international superstar like Taylor has thrust him into the spotlight like never before. But he doesn’t mind.
In a recent interview with WSJ. Magazine for their December/January cover, Travis discussed his relationship with the Blankspace singer and the newfound attention it has garnered. He made it clear that he has no intention of shying away from the increased scrutiny that has come with living his life under a larger microscope, even as paparazzi now line up in his once-quiet Kansas City neighborhood.
“Obviously I’ve never dated anyone with that kind of aura about them…I’ve never dealt with it. But at the same time, I’m not running away from any of it…The scrutiny she gets, how much she has a magnifying glass on her, every single day, paparazzi outside her house, outside every restaurant she goes to, after every flight she gets off, and she’s just living, enjoying life,” he stated.
Travis also praised Taylor for her ability to handle fame gracefully. He humorously quipped, “When she acts like that, I better not be the one acting all strange.”
Interestingly, it’s not Travis but his friends and family who seem more nervous about his budding romance, with them insisting that he not “f— this up!” He described Taylor as “hilarious” and “a genius” in the interview, highlighting their shared values when it comes to family and work.
“Everybody knows I’m a family guy. Her team is her family. Her family does a lot of stuff in terms of the tour, the marketing, being around, so I think she has a lot of those values as well, which is right up my alley,” he pointed out.
Even Travis’s mom, Donna Kelce, is a fan of Taylor Swift, sharing, “He’s happier than I’ve seen him in a long time… God bless him, he shot for the stars!”
During that interview, Travis also gave some insight into how his relationship with Taylor Swift began. He recalled his unsuccessful first attempt to meet her at her Eras Tour show in July, where some of Taylor’s acquaintances hinted at his presence. It was a bit of matchmaking that eventually led to Taylor reaching out to him directly.
“She told me exactly what was going on and how I got lucky enough to get her to reach out,” Travis revealed. He also shared that a few members of the Swift family helped get Taylor’s attention, with her little cousins even taking pictures in front of his locker when she visited Arrowhead Stadium.
Their first meeting took place in New York, and Travis emphasized that they had already been talking. He described it as a nice dinner and conversation, leaving the future to unfold as it may.
