Dean McDermott Finally Shares His Side of the Story After Split From Tori Spelling
Dean McDermott and Tori Spelling’s love story was the ultimate Hollywood romance—the socialite daughter of a Hollywood producer meets a handsome but struggling actor. The two fall in love at first sight, take a risk, and separate from their previous partners. They married in a Fijian beach and now have five children after a decade of being together.
Unfortunately, their love story didn’t have a good ending as the two finally called it quits and decided to separate. Apparently, life got in the way and the two people who were so madly in love eventually grew apart.
After rumors of Tori’s money woes and pix of his kids in trailer parks, Dean McDermott finally opened up about what happened. He revealed that their lousy situation was made worse by his addictions to prescription drugs and alcohol.
According to the actor, “All Tori’s ever done to this day is want me to be happy and healthy and I inflicted a lot of damage and pain on that woman. I’m taking accountability for that today. And it’s the biggest amend that I’m ever going to have to make.”
During his lowest of lows, Dean described how he and his wife were living like roommates, haunted by money concerns as the paparazzi feasted on their troubles. This caused him to succumb to tequila and find comfort in drugs each night. Eventually, he would have alcohol-fueled fits of anger that scared and traumatized his wife and their children.
Dean revealed that there were nights when he would pass out while a scared Tori would check on him and see if he was still breathing.
The 56-year-old Canadian actor shared, “Alcohol made me feel good enough. I started feeling good enough until it got to a point where it didn’t—it ended up in isolation. It ended up with me drinking a fifth of tequila every night, seven days a week, and a handful of narcos [prescription meds] by myself with a beautiful family in the other room. That’s what it led to, and that’s what led to the brokenness and to what happened between me and Tori.”
“I couldn’t do it anymore. I couldn’t live that life anymore. I was tired of the anger and the yelling.” Dean also admitted that he didn’t appreciate the attention and pressure of being “Mr. Tori Spelling.”
Since moving out of their rented home due to the mold issue, he has yet to see Tori and their kids. But after taking small steps, he shared that he is starting to communicate with his ex-wife again through SMS. He also admitted that he desperately wants to see his children.
Although he has already begun a relationship with Lily Calo, Dean admitted that he still loves the mother of his children and that he has no regrets even if their marriage ended the way it did.
In the meantime, Dean is learning to take responsibility for his actions by admitting that he was to blame for the breakdown of their marriage. He is also working on his addictions. A few days earlier, he admitted that he spent 40 days in rehab and is now at a facility for recovering addicts.
