Zahara Jolie Officially Drops the Pitt From Her Last Name: Revelations From Her Sorority Event
Zahara, the adopted daughter of Hollywood’s most famous estranged couple, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, seems to have officially dropped her father’s surname. This was revealed when she joined the intercollegiate historically African American sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha at Spelman College.
A video emerged showing the 18-year-old’s induction didn’t include Brad’s last name. According to People, Zahara introduced herself with: “My name is Zahara Marley Jolie. And [I] landed from the Golden State in the city full of angels: Los Angeles, California.”
Recall that Zahara’s adoptive parents, Hollywood icons Angelina and Brad, separated in 2016, with Angelina requesting sole custody of all six of their children. And all these years later, the two still seem to be involved in a contentious feud over time with their kids. Their love story began as all glitz and glam Hollywood, but the ending was ugly, bitter, and destructive, not just for the two but also for their adopted and biological children.
After the video emerged, many on social media commented, “I wasn’t gonna say anything, but I peeped that Zahara left Pitt off her last name.”
Another tweeted, “Oh, Zahara said her last name is Jolie, not Jolie-Pitt.”
While another posted, “I need people to respect her as an individual who just said her name aloud, ZAHARA. MARLEY. JOLIE. Zero mention of the name PITT. Period.”
Zahara is a sophomore at Spelman College, a historically Black women’s institution in Atlanta, Georgia.
Angelina and Brad first met on the set of their 2005 hit movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and from there, they became Hollywood’s It Couple—both excelling in their careers and influencing the industry.
They tied the knot in 2014 in a secret ceremony in France and then had three biological children together: 17-year-old Shiloh and 15-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox. During their relationship, they also adopted two children, Pax (age 19) and Zahara (age 18). Brad also legally adopted Angelina’s first adopted son, 22-year-old Maddox.
But the fairy-tale-like lives of Angelina and Brad were shattered in 2016 when the explosive news of the two getting into a physical altercation while on a private flight with their six children emerged.
Since then, the ex-couple’s road to separation became so publicized that it became worthy of a movie script. There is even a luxurious winery, which was a joint business, that became the highlight of the divorce proceedings. In May 2021, Brad and Angelina were given joint custody, but after a month, the decision was thrown out.
As for Zahara moving to university, the Maleficent star gave the school a shock and surprise when she showed up with her daughter on her move-in day. She tried to keep a low profile, but it’s not every day that students, parents, and faculty see the Tomb Raider star in the flesh.
News of Brad being absent and having no role when Zahara started Spelman emerged. But Brad, in one of his interviews with Vanity Fair, mentioned how proud he was of her daughter. Brad gushed, “She’s so smart. She’s going to flourish even more at college. It’s an exciting and beautiful time to find her way and pursue her interests. I’m so proud.”
