Snoop Dogg Declares He’s Done With Smoking After the Birth of His Grandson
It is no secret that Snoop Dogg has a notorious love for weed, but the music icon has made a surprising declaration recently that he is quitting smoking.
The 52-year-old made this announcement to the shock and disbelief of his fans. Some even wondered if this was part of a publicity stunt ahead of a new business venture or a project he is launching soon.
In a post, the rapper wrote, “I’m giving up smoke.” The full extent of his message included, “After much consideration with my family, I’ve decided to give up smoke.” He ended his post by asking his friends and followers to respect his privacy.
This news was a shock because the veteran rapper is known for his love and open appreciation for weed. As a result, many of Snoop’s business ventures are associated with it: edibles, various weed strains, and even a digital media trade solely dedicated to marijuana.
A news story previously claimed that Snoop Dogg, born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., has someone who rolls 25 to 150 joints for him on a daily basis. However, Snoop disputed this number.
According to Renegade Piranha, the man who calls himself the rapper’s blunt roller or PBR during a conversation last year, “On average, I do about half a pound a day, which seems excessive. So that’s roughly 75 to 150 units per day. I calculate it at over 450,000 blunts.”
Snoop Dogg revealed earlier this year that he has reduced his weekly intake and moderated his consumption after he became a grandfather. Snoop further said he has been reconsidering his personal use of weed after his eldest son, Cordé, became a father in 2015 to his little boy, whom they named Zion.
Snoop states, “Being a grandfather has changed me in multiple ways. The main way is being concerned with how I live, how I move, the kind of people I’m associated with because I want to see my grandkids grow old.”
He further shared, “The only way I can do that is to take precautionary steps regarding how I move, who I hang out with, where I go out, my intake, what am I intaking? Am I doing extracurriculars, or am I just doing what I’m supposed to be doing?”
Snoop Dogg is father to 28-year-old Cordé, 26-year-old Cordell, and 23-year-old Cori from his marriage with Shante Broadus. He has another son, 25-year-old Julian, from his relationship with Laurie Holmond.
Snoop is known to have a deep connection with weed, and in a 2013 Twitter Q&A, he revealed that he can smoke up to 81 blunts daily. This number is consistent with the estimation by Renegade Piranha.
The rap artist also launched the platform Merry Jane in 2015, a lifestyle site dedicated to weed. It is a place for education for anyone interested in marijuana, from the starters, occasional smokers, up to daily consumers like him.
