Cher Would Do ‘Anything To Be 70 Again’
As Cher celebrated the 25th anniversary of her 1998 hit Believe, Cher shared her candid thoughts on aging and the enduring spirit that defines her. In a recent Today interview, Cher, now 77, made it clear that she isn’t one to be dazzled by milestones, saying, “It’s not that amazing. It pisses the f— out of me.”
When asked if she and aging are on friendly terms, the iconic Grammy-winning singer responded with a resounding “No!” Contrary to her late mother, the actress Georgia Holt, who embraced aging and lived to the ripe age of 96, Cher openly admitted her disdain for growing older.
With a smile, she confessed, “I’d give anything to be 70 again!”
Cher has consistently maintained her unique style, both on and off the stage. In a previous interview with Good Morning Britain, she emphasized that she plans to keep wearing two things for as long as she pleases: her jeans and her long hair.
In her words, “I just can’t believe I will be 80 at some point, sooner than I wish. And I will still be wearing my jeans and I will still be wearing long hair and I will still be doing the same stuff I’ve always done.”
One thing Cher will not be caught doing anytime soon is going gray. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE last year, she made it clear that she won’t be embracing the salt-and-pepper look.
“[Going gray] is fine for other girls. I’m just not doing it!” she remarked.
Cher’s attitude toward aging is a testament to her timeless spirit. She doesn’t measure her age by the numbers but by the vibrancy of her life. As she explained, “I don’t know if not feeling old makes you younger. I keep up with the trends. I have lots of young friends. I have old friends too. Honestly, I’m not trying to feel young. I’m not trying to be young. I am who I am. I’m just getting along.”
Speaking with The Guardian recently, she spoke about working hard longer than anyone as she has been in the entertainment world for six decades.
“My life seems to be longer than any other human being ever,” she stated. “I feel like I should be in the Guinness Book of World Records for this. And I’m still going!”
But she is not quitting. In October, she released her first holiday album, titled Christmas. Speaking about the album, which marks her 27th studio album, she said, “I wanted to make a Cher Christmas album. But I didn’t know how to do it. I never could figure out a way. Then this year, I just asked the record company if they would just let me do it — and just hand the finished product over to them —and they were agreeable, so I started picking songs.”
