Ariana Grande’s Brother, Frankie Grande Celebrates Six Years Of Sobriety And Redemption
Ariana Grande’s brother, Frankie Grande, is marking a significant milestone in his life – six years of sobriety. In an interview on Thursday’s episode of Today with Hoda & Jenna, the 40-year-old opened up about his journey to recovery and how hitting “rock bottom” transformed his life.
Speaking to hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager, he said, “I always say that I’m so lucky and I’m so blessed because at the height of my using, I was still showing up to work. And people weren’t saying, like, ‘Oh, you need to get help.’ Which is great, but it’s also kind of a curse because I was like, ‘Well, no one’s telling me I need to get help.'”
Frankie’s turning point came after the tragic Manchester bombing in May 2017, during his sister Ariana’s concert. He realized that his addiction was pulling him further away from his family, preventing him from being there when they needed him the most.
“It was a rock bottom moment. It was after the Manchester bombing, and I realized that I could not show up to help my family. It took me further and further into using and farther and farther away from my family.”
Now, six years into his sobriety journey, Frankie shared that his relationship with his family is stronger than ever. He proudly stated, “The six years sober has repaired my relationship with my family, and that has been the greatest blessing of my life.”
He emphasized that he’s now the first phone call his sister and mother make when they need assistance, a role he hadn’t held for years.
Frankie’s path to recovery is a remarkable one, and he has previously shared the darkness he faced in a letter to PEOPLE after celebrating his first year of sobriety. He described how he attempted to numb his pain with substance abuse, only to find himself sinking deeper into despair.
But he found the courage to seek help and shared his inspiring message with the world: “I am here today because with that help I discovered that the path to the light was not in drowning my sorrows, but in facing them head on… in sobriety.”
Frankie wants his story to serve as an example that one can find redemption and wholeness after enduring dark times. He believes that sobriety is a lifelong decision and proudly states, “I have never been happier. I have never been healthier. I have never been so free.”
To those who may be struggling, he offers hope: “If you have ever found yourself in a cycle of depression where you are drinking and/or using to excess and you believe that there is no way out, I am here to tell you there is help out there! You are ABSOLUTELY NOT ALONE!”
