Suits L.A. Spinoff Gets Green Light With New Pilot From Creator Aaron Korsh
Exciting news for fans of legal drama as NBCUniversal has officially ordered a pilot for the highly anticipated Suits spinoff, Suits L.A. The series, set in the same universe as the original hit show, will be helmed by Suits creator Aaron Korsh and promises to bring a fresh perspective with an all-new cast, although the return of familiar faces remains uncertain.
The official logline sets the stage for the upcoming series: “Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York, has reinvented himself representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles. His firm is at a crisis point, and in order to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career. Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives. All of this is going on while events from years ago slowly unravel that led Ted to leave behind everything and everyone he loved.”
Under the direction of Victoria Mahoney, production for Suits L.A. is set to commence in late March in Vancouver, Canada. If the pilot receives the green light for a full series, viewers can anticipate its release sometime during the 2024-2025 season.
In addition to crafting the pilot, Aaron will serve as an executive producer alongside former Suits EPs David Bartis, Doug Liman, and Gene Klein.
The news of this spinoff has stirred excitement among the stars of the original series, many of whom have expressed their desire to return to the Suits universe. Patrick J. Adams, known for his role as Mike Ross, shared his enthusiasm ahead of the 2024 Golden Globes. He expressed his readiness to reprise his character, stating, “I love the show, I love the character. And I loved working with all these people.”
The news about the spinoff came after Suits gained a new wave of popularity in 2023. In June, Netflix announced that the series, starring Meghan Markle, Gabriel Macht, Rick Hoffman, Gina Torres, and Sarah Rafferty, would be available on the streaming platform for the first time. The series experienced a surge in popularity, amassing an impressive 3 billion viewing minutes between Netflix and Peacock for the week of June 26 to July 2. Suits’ first season alone garnered over 26 million hours viewed on Netflix during that week, maintaining its position in the platform’s Top Ten list for at least four weeks.
