Usher’s Ex Tameka Proudly Supports His Super Bowl Triumph
Tameka Foster, the esteemed fashion stylist and former spouse of the iconic Usher Raymond, radiated pride as she witnessed her ex-husband’s stellar performance at the highly anticipated Super Bowl halftime show. Amid the electrifying atmosphere, Tameka, who shares two sons, Usher V and Naviyd Ely, with the renowned singer, took a moment to share her sentiments about his awe-inspiring showcase.
In an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE, she left no room for doubt regarding her admiration for Usher’s flawless execution on stage.
“I did not notice one — I mean, not one — blemish in the performance. He crushed it… he killed it. I don’t think people realize that he’s singing live and doing all of this stuff. So that’s one thing that really needs to be taken into consideration. The mic is always on when he’s around, he can sing for real. It was beyond… above anyone’s expectations,” she said to PEOPLE.
Tameka, whose impeccable styling has graced the likes of JAY-Z and Mary J. Blige, went on to offer a slight critique of Usher’s wardrobe choices for the performance.
“His looks were great… I thought he looked nice. The only comment I had is that I wish that his opening outfit was a little more slim fit — not small, but a little slimmer, just because I really prefer to see lines on dancers when people are dancing. I like to see the lines of their physique. But aside from that, I loved the outfits. I loved the opening, the overcoat, everything,” she stated.
Delving deeper into the behind-the-scenes dynamics, Tameka revealed a lesser-known aspect of the halftime show’s creative process — her son Naviyd’s integral role in conceptualizing the performance.
“Naviyd was very instrumental in his father’s Super Bowl performance. He is so creative… he had tons of ideas. He literally did the whole performance — even with [Usher] starting out in the chair. I want him to go the creative director route. That is his calling,” she stated.
Away from the spotlight, Usher’s recent nuptials to Jennifer Goicoechea made headlines, marking a new chapter in his personal life. While Tameka admitted she hadn’t congratulated him yet, she expressed genuine happiness for his newfound love. “I think it’s great. I mean, listen, love is a beautiful thing, and if he’s found it again, congratulations,” she declared with seeming sincerity.
Reflecting on her past with Usher, Tameka cherished the fond memories but remained steadfast in her focus on future endeavors, including her upcoming show, “Bold & Boujie,” where she stars alongside other dynamic personalities including Crystal Smith, Gocha Hawkins, Malaysia Pargo and Princess Banton-Lofters.
“I find joy in our differences….I love getting to know them. And we have a great sisterhood right now,” she said of the collaboration with the women.
