Beyoncé Shares Haircare Secrets In Essence Interview
In a recent interview with Essence magazine, the renowned artist Beyoncé unveiled the secrets behind her luscious locks. The 42-year-old beauty icon, who graces the cover of the March/April issue, shared insights into her haircare routine, coinciding with the launch of her haircare brand, Cécred.
Beyoncé emphasized the significance of moisture in her haircare regimen, revealing her childhood rituals of maintaining a healthy scalp. “It’s all about moisture for me—adding oil to my scalp and covering my hair at night so the oils could penetrate,” she disclosed.
Additionally, the megastar revealed her nighttime hair routine, which involves wrapping her hair and sometimes sleeping in rollers with a net or bonnet. These methods, she explained, aim to prevent friction, maintain her hairstyle, and minimize the use of heat styling tools.
The launch of Cécred on Tuesday has been eagerly awaited by fans, who can now follow Beyoncé’s tried-and-tested process. The brand draws inspiration from diverse global rituals and incorporates wisdom passed down from Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, a trained hairdresser who serves as the brand’s vice chairwoman.
The Foundation collection comprises eight essential products, including a Clarifying Shampoo & Scalp Scrub, Hydrating Shampoo, Moisturizing Deep Conditioner, Reconstructing Treatment Mask, Fermented Rice & Rose Protein Ritual, Moisture Sealing Lotion, Nourishing Hair Oil, and a Ritual Shaking Vessel.
In her interview, Beyoncé also emphasized the importance of self-care and self-expression, particularly for Black women. She advocated for the freedom to wear hair in various styles, whether natural, straight, braided, or with extensions.
“[Black women] can wear our hair natural, straight, braids, weaves and wigs. There’s power in self-expression and in feeling free to show up as we choose, in whatever hair we choose. For me, joy comes from making myself a priority and making my hair a priority. It is really important for me to make time for the sacred rituals of self-care,” she shared.
