Jamie Dornan Embraces The Joys Of Being A Girl Dad, Says He Could Never Be A Boy Dad
In a heartwarming segment on Tuesday’s episode of Today with Hoda & Jenna, Hollywood heartthrob Jamie Dornan opened up about the sheer joy and challenges of being a father to three daughters. The 41-year-old actor, best known for his roles in Fifty Shades of Grey and Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar, shared insights into his life as a proud girl dad.
Jamie, who shares his daughters Dulcie, Eva, and Alberta with his wife, film composer Amelia Warner, radiated warmth and sincerity as he reflected on fatherhood. When asked by co-host Hoda Kotb about the best part of being a girl dad, he didn’t hesitate to express his love for every moment of it.
“All of it. The monumental challenge of it. It’s the best — I don’t know any other way,” he shared.
Reflecting on the unique energy of his household, the actor confessed, “Three girls, I don’t know how I’d be as a boy dad. I’m not sure I could deal with the energy. I’m someone who has a lot of energy anyway, I’m quite hyper often. We wouldn’t cope if there were three hyper boys in the house.”
Co-host Hoda Kotb chimed in, highlighting the actor’s sensitive side, to which the actor humbly agreed, noting how his sensitivity complements his role as a girl dad.
“I’m sensitive too, and I think that is beneficial to being a girl dad definitely. “I just love it, like it’s mad. Any version of two of them it’s usually okay, and throw the third in and they’re..,” he stated as he made two fists and clashed them together.
Jamie’s affection for his daughters shines through as he recounts their shared moments, including their obsession with his song from Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar. He revealed how even his youngest, at just 2 years old, is captivated by his performance, stating, “That’s what they’re obsessed with. Even the 2-year-old’s obsessed with that and wants to watch that all the time. So that’s on our most watched YouTube playlist, probably.”
The actor also shared endearing anecdotes about his daughters’ growing appreciation for his work, particularly his voice-acting role in Trolls World Tour. Recalling a precious moment with his daughters, Jamie described how his youngest did not understand that Daddy was the voice she heard in the movie, a concept that proved too abstract for her tender age.
“And just recently I walked in on our 5-year-old trying to explain that to our 2-year-old. She had sort of paused Trolls World Tour at the point when my character would come in. And she was trying to explain to the 2-year-old that who she was about to see and hear was actually Daddy,” he shared, adding, “But the 2 year old, her mind wasn’t really ready for that sort of information. It was too high concept for her. And then I sat with them whilst my part was on and was like going, ‘That’s Daddy!’ And she just wasn’t getting it. So there’s work to be done there.”
