‘This Is What I Wanted’: Hilary Swank Talks Motherhood Journey And Twins On Today Show
Hilary Swank, the renowned actress, recently spilled the beans about her journey to becoming a mother on the popular show Today with Hoda & Jenna. Joined by hosts Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb, Hilary delved into the joys and challenges of raising her baby twins, daughter Aya and son Ohm, born in April 2023 to her and husband Philip Schneider.
During the candid chat, Hoda asked Hilary about her lifelong desire to be a mother. With a warm smile, Hilary reminisced about her childhood dreams, expressing how being a mom was always close to her heart, even amidst her bustling career. She shared her perspective on balancing her passion for acting with the newfound joy of motherhood, emphasizing the importance of finding the right partner along the way.
In her words, “I mean, I’ve always, even when I was a little girl I was like, ‘I want to be a mom someday.’ But I also have this career that was like a baby to me that I wanted to give my all to. And then finding the right partner and all of that.”
Reflecting on embracing motherhood a bit later in life, Hilary acknowledged it as a “blessing.” She highlighted the unique opportunity she has now to dedicate her undivided attention to her twins, thanks to her life’s circumstances, including an actor’s strike that provided her with ample time to bond with her babies in their crucial first year.
The conversation turned lighthearted as Bush Hager chimed in, joking about the cliches surrounding parenthood. Hilary, with a hearty laugh, expressed her enthusiasm for the chaotic yet fulfilling journey of raising twins, embracing the sleepless nights and the hijacking of her life with open arms.
“Yeah, a lot of complaining. ‘Oh my God, your life gets kind of taken away. It gets hijacked until they get back in school.’ I’m like, ‘This is what I wanted. Good. Hijack the heck out of it!’” she stated.
Recently, at the premiere of her film Ordinary Angels in New York, Hilary candidly shared her experiences of navigating the ups and downs of raising twins. Admitting that nights could be challenging, she revealed her optimistic outlook, recognizing that this phase, too, shall pass, and cherishing the fleeting moments of cuddles and sleepless nights.
“I think that being a mother of twins, I never have had a singleton, so I don’t know what that’s like. But I know that the sleepless nights are hard and when you have one that might sleep through the night, the other one’s not, so it’s kind of this trade-off every night,” she stated, adding, “But I know this is also a season, and it too will pass, and I try and remind myself that there’s going to be a day when I’m like, ‘Oh, I’d love to wake up right now and just hold you.’ So just trying and hold on to that.”
Looking ahead, Hilary eagerly anticipates the next milestones in her twins’ lives, relishing every moment of their crawling adventures.
