Eminem Releasing New Album This Summer Four Years After Last Album
Eminem is making headlines once again with talks of a new album! On April 25, the Grammy winner dropped a bombshell, announcing that he’s unleashing his twelfth studio album, titled The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), this summer. Fans couldn’t contain their excitement when Em himself confirmed the news on Instagram, right before his appearance at the 2024 NFL Draft in Detroit.
This album title is a nod to Eminem’s infamous alter ego, Slim Shady, a persona he’s rocked since his xi EP in 1997 and The Slim Shady LP in 1999.
During the NFL Draft’s opening, the 51-year-old rapper shared a sneak peek of his upcoming album in a trailer that set social media on fire. The teaser starts with a chilling announcement of Slim Shady’s demise by a fictional true crime reporter. “Through his complex and oft-criticized, tongue-twisting rhymes, the blonde anti-hero known as Slim Shady has had no shortage of enemies,” the reporter says. Cue goosebumps!
Then, fellow rapper 50 Cent chimes in, labeling Slim Shady as a “psychopath.”
The trailer hints at the controversies and enemies Slim Shady has faced over the years, with the reporter teasing a deep dive into the events leading to his “murder.”
“The same rude lyrics and controversial antics may have ultimately led to his demise. Join me as we recreate the events that led to the murder of Slim Shady,” the reporter said.
Eminem sure knows how to keep his fans on our toes. Earlier this month, he pulled a prank on fans with an April Fools’ Day Instagram Reel, teasing a surprise album drop that never happened.
The excitement reached fever pitch when Dr. Dre spilled the beans in March, confirming Eminem’s album release this year during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Dre even teased that the album is straight fire, with some of his own beats making the cut.
In the Beats Electronics co-founder’s words, “Let me tell you something, let me explain something to you right now — Eminem is working on his own album, which is coming out this year. So, he has an album coming out — I’ve got songs on it, and it’s fire. I’m actually gonna hear the entire album for the first time for tomorrow.”
News of the upcoming album release is especially notable, as it has been four years since Eminem’s last album, Music to Be Murdered By, which he dropped as a surprise in January 2020.
