Barbra Streisand Explains She Didn’t Mean Any Harm By Asking Melissa McCarthy Ozempic Question On Instagram
Barbra Streisand found herself in a bit of a pickle on Instagram recently. The 82-year-old icon took to the social media platform to share her thoughts on a photo featuring the actress Melissa McCarthy. Little did she know, her innocent comment would stir up quite the buzz.
In a post to her Instagram Stories on April 30, Barbra explained why she asked Melissa if she was on the weight loss drug Ozempic.
“I went on Instagram to see the photos we’d posted of the beautiful flowers I’d received for my birthday! Below them was a photo of my friend Melissa McCarthy who I sang with on my Encore album,” Barbra stated.
In the now-deleted comment, Barbra explained that she simply wanted to pay McCarthy a compliment on her appearance. However, her question about a weight loss drug inadvertently made headlines.
In her words, “She looked fantastic! I just wanted to pay her a compliment. I forgot the world is reading!”
Melissa, known for her roles in comedies like Bridesmaids, had posted a picture of herself with director Adam Shankman from an event they attended together.
“Pastels only to honor the incredible @matthewbourne13 at the @ctgla gala last night with this fella @adamshankman!! Thiiiiis much closer to my dream of dancing on stage,” she had written in the caption.
Among the numerous comments the photo received was that of Barbra, in which she wrote, “Give him my regards did you take Ozempic?”
Barbra’s comment, though swiftly removed, had already been noticed by eagle-eyed followers and picked up by popular Instagram account Comments By Celebs.
It is unclear if the comment caused any friction between the two stars but Barbra and Melissa have been known to be on good terms. Back in 2016, they joined forces for a duet on Barbra’s Encore album, showcasing their musical talents together in the duet of Anything You Can Do.
In an interview last year, Melissa shared a humorous anecdote about her first encounter with Barbra, noting the star’s unexpected choice of attire and snack.
In her words, “I think when she opened the door she had leggings on and lunch meat in her hand. And I was like, none of this is what I expected.”
