Jennie Garth Recalls Funny Misconception Before Meeting Husband Dave Abrams
In an honest and delightful conversation on her podcast, I Choose Me with Jennie Garth, the former Beverly Hills, 90210 star shared a hilarious mix-up about her now-husband, Dave Abrams. At 52, Jennie, alongside her husband Dave, 42, recounted their initial blind date story that’s straight out of a romantic comedy!
Following her divorce from Peter Facinelli, Jennie wasn’t looking for love. However, a friend had suggested she go on a double date — not to find romance, but to practice dating.
“I wasn’t really even at the place of wanting to meet anybody. But I was at the place in my life after the divorce where I had done a ton of work, and I was finally happy on my own. I felt really strong, really confident. And then she [suggested a blind date], and I was like, ‘Okay. I’ll practice. Let me practice. I need to practice dating,'” Jennie recalled.
Little did she know, this practice would lead her right to her future husband. But here’s the kicker — before meeting Dave, Jennie decided to do a quick Google search on him. To her shock and amusement, the search results popped up images of a Chippendales dancer also named Dave Abrams!
“If you’re out there, Dave, you’ve got a nice physique,” joked Dave.
The real-life meeting wasn’t less interesting. Jennie walked into the restaurant expecting to see a Chippendales dancer. Instead, she was greeted by a handsome, tall man standing by the bar, who was, in fact, the real Dave Abrams. Although they spoke little during their initial meeting, the connection was undeniable. Jennie found herself laughing and enjoying the evening far more than she had anticipated, all the while Dave charmed her with his humor and good looks.
“You started to make me laugh, almost instantly. And I was like, ‘Hey, he’s not just a pretty face. He’s actually funny and fun to hang out with. I liked this guy.’ And you were hot, which started to like, change my mind,” Jennie recalled.
Their evening extended beyond the first meeting spot, Café Stella, where the sparks really started to fly. It wasn’t just a night of laughter and getting to know each other; it ended with their first kiss and an impromptu invitation to what Dave later learned was Jennie’s home, humorously dubbed “the babe bar” by Jennie.
From a mistaken identity to a beautiful love story, Jennie and Dave have since made it down the aisle in 2015. Although they filed for divorce in 2019, the couple found their way back to each other later that same year. Jennie joyfully sums up their journey, “The rest is history.”
