Shannon Sharpe Says He’s Ready To Move On From Shaquille O’Neal Feud
The recent online spat between Shannon Sharpe and NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal has kept sports fans buzzing, but Shannon is ready to move on. He addressed the situation on the red carpet of the Webby Awards on May 13, revealing his intent to put everything behind him.
The drama began earlier this month when a disagreement over the 2024 NBA MVP choice led to a heated exchange. It all started when Shaquille commented that the MVP should have gone to Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander instead of Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic, who won his third MVP title in four years on May 8. Shannon, believing Shaquille was jealous of Jokic’s achievements, shared his views on his podcast, The Nightcap.
Shannon accused Shaquille of being envious, pointing out that O’Neal has only one MVP trophy from his Hall of Fame career. Shaquille fired back on Instagram, mocking Shannon for not being “ranked in the top 10” of his own profession. He even went as far as to release a diss track on May 10, calling Sharpe out with some scathing lyrics.
In the track, Shaquille rapped, “Your whole demeanor is faker than new rapper beefy/ You’re soft before you get fly, you’d rather tweet me/ I was in three different cars when you was in three feet/ All I see is dollar signs, they coming in 3-D.”
“Make it hot, ain’t no way around my degrees/ You are not in my spot, you are like a peewee,” he added.
Despite the harsh words, Shannon seemed unbothered when speaking to PEOPLE at the Webby Awards. “I mean, I don’t have no problem with Shaq,” he said. “He said what he said, I’m ready to move on.” When asked if he had anything more to say to Shaquille, the Pro Football Hall of Famer simply responded, “No.”
