Tom Brady Says Comedy Roast Taught Him Lesson As He Opens Up About The Impact On His Family
Tom Brady, the 46-year-old former NFL quarterback and father of three, recently shared his reflections on the comedy roast he participated in on May 5. Appearing on the latest episode of The Pivot Podcast, Tom revealed his mixed feelings about the event, especially regarding its impact on his children.
“I loved when the jokes were about me—I thought they were so fun,” Brady said.
“I didn’t like the way that affected my kids. So it’s the hardest part about, like, the bittersweet aspect of when you do something that you think is one way, and then all of a sudden you realize I wouldn’t do that again because of the way that affected actually the people that I care about the most in the world,” he added.
Tom admitted that he initially agreed to the roast without fully considering the broader implications.
“I wanted to do the roast because the guy Jeff Ross became someone that I knew, and then you just don’t see the full picture all the time. So I think it’s a good lesson for me as a parent. I’m going to be a better parent as I go forward because of it, and at the same time, I’m happy everyone who was there had a lot of fun,” he shared.
Reflecting on the locker room culture of athletes, Tom emphasized the importance of events such as the roast, saying, “Let’s do more of that and love each other and come on man, celebrate other people’s success. That, to me, gives everyone a lot of hope.”
The roast, however, touched on sensitive topics such as Tom’s October 2022 divorce from Gisele Bündchen and her relationship with Miami-based jiu-jitsu instructor Joaquim Valente. This aspect of the roast didn’t sit well with Gisele, who felt the portrayal of her family was disrespectful.
Following the event, a source close to Bündchen told PEOPLE that the model was “deeply disappointed by the disrespectful portrayal of her family on Sunday evening’s roast show.
“As always, [Bündchen’s] priority is to support her children who were affected by the irresponsible content that was broadcasted,” the insider said further.
Tom shares son Benjamin, 14, and daughter Vivian, 11, with his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen, and is also a father to Jack, 16, with ex Bridget Moynahan.
