Miley Cyrus Shares Heartwarming Fax Messages From Godmother Dolly Parton
Miley Cyrus recently opened up about her unique communication with her godmother, the legendary Dolly Parton, in a cover story interview with W Magazine. The two-time Grammy-winning singer, now 31, revealed the charming fax messages she receives from Dolly and a very special Christmas gift she received last year.
Miley shared how Dolly, 78, prefers faxing over more modern communication methods. “No one else faxes. I literally have to access my lawyer’s office, because the lawyer is the only person who can still receive a fax,” Miley explained.
One of the faxes read, “How much do I love you? As much as my heart can hold and as far as my arms can reach.”
Miley added, “It gets me choked up…I just love her so much.”
Last Christmas, Dolly’s gift to Miley was a showstopper. Last Christmas, she gave me a whole mannequin, done in her proportions and wearing her outfit. It’s so major,” Miley said, highlighting Dolly’s unforgettable style and personality.
Dolly’s commitment to using a fax machine isn’t just for Miley. In an interview on The View last year, Dolly explained why she sticks with faxes and avoids texts, emails, and social media.
“Kenny Rogers used to aggravate me about it. I said, ‘Look, I’ll send you a message by carrier pigeon if I need to get in touch with you. You always seem to know how to reach me when you want something!'” she said.
She elaborated, saying, “So I actually, I never did get into getting involved in all that because it’ll take up too much of my time if I tried to get in touch with everybody who is trying to get in touch with me. So I just say, ‘Fax me! Fax me or call me and I’ll call you back.’”
This preference for faxing extends to Dolly’s professional collaborations as well. Fellow country icon Reba McEntire talked about faxing Dolly to arrange their duet version of 1993’s Does He Love You during an interview with Apple Music’s Southern Accents Radio in 2022. “You don’t call Dolly, you fax her. You fax your people and your people talk to her people. That’s the only way I know to get ahold of her,” the You Lie singer said.
