Evangeline Lilly Embarks On A New Journey Of Living Out Her Vision
Evangeline Lilly, known for her roles in Lost and the Ant-Man franchise, has announced a significant shift in her career. On June 3, the actress revealed on Instagram that she is stepping away from acting to embrace a new phase in her life. Lilly, 44, shared, “I might return to Hollywood one day, but, for now, this is where I belong. A new season has arrived, and I AM READY … and I AM HAPPY. 🕊️💪🏽😊.”
The announcement was accompanied by a nostalgic video from 2006, during her time on Lost. In the clip, Lilly, standing on a beach, spoke about her dreams for the future. “I am terrified to admit this to the rest of the acting world but ideally, 10 years from now, I’d like to be a retired actress, and I would like to have a family,” she confessed. She also expressed a desire to write and influence people’s lives in a more humanitarian way.
The video also included a poignant moment with Maya Angelou, whose words resonated deeply with Lilly. The late poet and civil-rights activist said, “We’re all in process. The only promise that will not be reneged upon is you will die. You may as well try to do some other wonderful things.”
Reflecting on these sentiments, Lilly wrote, “I am so filled with joy and contentment today as I live out my vision. Praise God, I feel so grateful for my blessings.”
She went on, saying, , “Stepping away from what seems like the obvious choice (wealth and fame) can feel scary at times, but stepping into your dharma replaces the fear with fulfillment.”
Lilly’s career has been marked by memorable roles. She played Kate Austen on Lost from 2004 to 2010, starred in films like The Hurt Locker and The Hobbit series, and became a superhero as Hope Van Dyne/Wasp in the Ant-Man trilogy and Avengers: Endgame.
During the Los Angeles premiere of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in February 2023, Lilly shared a lighthearted moment about gaining “major cool points” with her two children for her superhero role.
“And I needed it so bad with my oldest son because he didn’t believe a word I ever said,” she joked. Her son, Kahekili, born in 2011, finally thought his mom was “cool” after discovering the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“And of course, the Marvel Universe is the thing in middle school,” she stated, adding, “I mean, there is almost nothing cooler. Maybe Lil Nas X might be cooler. Or Lazarbeam. But I’m up there with all those guys.”
