It’s A Blessing”: Kathie Lee Gifford On The Joy Of Being A Grandma
Kathie Lee Gifford is soaking in the joys of her new role as a grandmother. The former Today co-host, 70, recently shared her experiences and happiness with PEOPLE, coinciding with the release of her latest book, I Want to Matter: Your Life Is Too Short and Too Precious to Waste, which hit the shelves on April 30.
Reflecting on her journey into grandparenthood, Kathie Lee expressed her delight in seeing her children thrive as parents.
“I had my children later in life and I’ve certainly had my grandchildren later,” she said. “It is exactly what everybody’s always told me, which seems like such a cliché. But clichés — they’re real. Because they’re true.”
Kathie Lee’s pride and joy in her family are evident. “There is nothing like it in the whole world. To see my children, first of all, so in love with their spouses. I’m so grateful to God for that. They picked wisely. They’re so in love and it makes me so happy,” she beamed.
“Then to see them parenting the way they do, which is beyond. Cody’s wife was bedridden for like six months with their second baby, and the love they showed each other and the love they had for this unborn child that they were just going to save no matter what happened.”
Kathie Lee is now relishing the time spent with her grandsons. Her son Cody’s sons, Ford, 6 months, and Frank, 2, along with her daughter Cassidy’s son, Finn, 11 months, bring her immense joy.
“Little Frankie, named after his grandfather, is doing gymnastics at an age 4 level. He just turned 2 two days ago. And Finnie, Finnie is Cassidy’s little boy, we call him Fincent Churchill because he looks like Winston Churchill. He’s just funny. I’m loving it,” she shared.
At a QVC’s Q50 party in Las Vegas, Kathie Lee talked about her plans for Mother’s Day. Despite her usual approach of not making a big deal out of holidays, she expressed her excitement about spending the day with her family. “I told my kids every year don’t get me anything. Just be with me. And we FaceTime almost every day, early in the morning, because they’ve got two little ones — my son does and Cassidy’s got one little one,” she said.
