On June 9, Dream Hampton premiered her new documentary, It Was All a Dream, at the SVA Theatre in New York City, as part of the Tribeca Film Festival. The film, described as a “visual memoir,” features video footage from Hampton’s personal archive, capturing moments inside the studio with some of rap’s biggest legends like The Notorious B.I.G., Snoop Dogg, Mobb Deep, and Wu-Tang Clan’s Method Man.
During the event, Dream also commented on the ongoing allegations against Sean “Diddy” Combs.
“I’m kind of just mad at him that I have to talk about or be asked about it,” she stated, adding that she didn’t know if Diddy would face consequences for his alleged crimes.
“It’s all unfolding,” she said.
The allegations against Diddy, 54, first came to light in November 2023, when his ex, Cassie, accused him of rape and sex trafficking in a bombshell lawsuit. Although the lawsuit was settled the next day, four more individuals publicly accused Diddy of sexual assault in the following months.
In December, Diddy denied the accusations in a statement obtained by PEOPLE, calling them “sickening allegations” “made against me by individuals looking for a quick payday.”
The controversy deepened in March when federal agents raided Diddy’s properties in Los Angeles and Miami. A representative from Homeland Security Investigations told PEOPLE that this was “part of an ongoing investigation.”
In May, CNN released a 2016 hotel surveillance video showing Diddy grabbing, shoving, and kicking Cassie, 37. This video matched the allegations Cassie made in her initial lawsuit. Cassie’s lawyer stated that the video “only further confirmed” Diddy’s “disturbing and predatory behavior.”
Dream, known for her work as a music journalist, is also credited with executive producing Surviving R. Kelly, the explosive Lifetime docuseries from 2019. This series revealed how the hit-maker used his power and influence to sexually and physically abuse women and young girls.
“This is a deeply painful story about a predator. We have brave women who came forward. The public deserved to have the full story,” Dream told PEOPLE in 2019.
Following the release of Surviving R. Kelly, R. Kelly was indicted by a grand jury on 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse against four alleged victims. Over the years, Kelly has been found guilty of numerous charges, including child pornography, and was ultimately sentenced to a total of 31 years in prison.
