Luke Newton Teases Even Steamier Scenes In “Bridgerton” Season 3 Part 2
Fans of Bridgerton are in for a treat! Luke Newton, who plays Colin Bridgerton, has revealed that the steamy scenes in part one of season three are just the beginning. At the London premiere for part two on June 12, Newton shared with PEOPLE that there is “so much more to come” and hinted that the upcoming episodes will get even steamier.
“There’s so much more to come in part 2,” Luke, 31, said. He specifically mentioned the highly-anticipated carriage scene between Colin and Penelope Featherington, played by Nicola Coughlan, which left fans buzzing. The scene, where Colin finally proposes to Penelope, has been a fan favorite, and Luke is thrilled with the audience’s reaction.
“I think that’s the best thing about the split release – is that people really appreciated the moments and went into detail with part one, which they might not have. They might have gotten lost in all the amazing scenes that we’ve got in part two,” he said.
Luke was amazed by the creativity of the fans, saying, “It’s amazing. The stuff I’ve seen online – the creativity behind people’s ideas — it’s just brilliant.”
In a video for Netflix, Luke and Nicola shared their reactions to filming the carriage scene, a pivotal moment from Julia Quinn’s book Romancing Mister Bridgerton. Nicola, 37, admitted that they felt “big pressure” to do justice to the fan-favorite moment.
Addressing the expectations of fans for the scenes, she added, “The fans are horny little devils and they used to send us pictures of carriages constantly and carriages rocking. So, this has to be both beautiful, touching, romantic, and sexy, which is a lot of things.”
Luke emphasized their commitment to authenticity in portraying Colin and Penelope’s relationship. “We just wanted to honor that because people have a lot of love for their relationship, and we wanted to keep it really true to that,” he explained.
Luke and Nicola had extensive discussions about how their characters’ first encounter should unfold and worked closely with the intimacy coordinator to ensure the scene’s intensity was just right.
Nicola added that the intimacy in this season feels very real and grounded. “It feels very grounded in two people that are not trying to sort of, that they’re awkward in front of one another, this and that, and all of a sudden they become like letharias in the bedroom and whatever, they get to be intimate together in a very real and beautiful way, and I think that’s what makes it so affecting. In those intimate moments, they find moments to laugh and you see them figuring it out and doing it together, and I love it,” she stated.
