Legendary Boxer Roy Jones Jr. Announces His Son’s Death by Suicide
Roy Jones Jr announced the tragic death of his son by suicide in a post on X.
“Unfortunately, my son DeAndre took his life on Saturday,” the statement read.
The 55-year-old legendary boxer said that he was thankful that God allowed him to be there with his son the last night of his life.
“I know a lot of people are going through tough times right now, but nothing is worth taking your own life. God gives it and God should be the one to take it away. Please respect our privacy while my family and I process this loss,” the statement continued. Jones also thanked his fans for their love and support.
DeAndre was 32 at the time of his passing. He is survived by his father, his mother Natlyn, and two siblings, DeShaun & Roy III.
Well-wishers replied to pay their tributes.
Amir Khan, Britain’s youngest boxing Olympic medalist, wrote, “My deepest condolences brother I am so sorry. Praying for your family🙏🏻.”

The controversial social media influencer Tristan Tate also took the time to express his condolences. “Damn Roy this breaks my heart. Praying for your family. If there’s anything we can do for you let us know.🙏🏻” the 35-year-old wrote.
“Sorry for your loss Roy, may your son’s soul rest in peace and may he no longer be suffering from whatever he was going through..,” one fan wrote.

Roy Jones holds world championships in middleweight, super middleweight, light heavyweight, and heavyweight classes. The ex-boxing legend ended his 29-year-old career in 2018 after defeating Scott Sigmon with a 10-round unanimous decision.
He returned to the ring in 2020 against one of his biggest rivals, Mike Tyson. The two showed off their strength in eight two-minute rounds, which saw the 50-something taking quite a few body shots and head punches from “The Baddest Man on the Planet.” The fight was unofficially ruled a draw.
