Savannah Chrisley Provides Update On Parents Todd And Julie Amid Legal Battles
As Julie Chrisley prepares for resentencing and a hopeful return home, her daughter, Savannah Chrisley, offers an update on her father, Todd Chrisley. On the latest episode of her podcast, Unlocked, Savannah shared insights into the current legal standing and future steps for her family.
Savannah, 26, detailed the next steps for her 55-year-old father after his appeal was denied, despite Julie’s successful appeal. “The next process for dad is going through and filing the motion for the 2255, which is ineffective assistance of counsel, and then taking that step by step,” Savannah explained in the July 2 episode.
“So that’s pretty much where we’re at with that,” she added.
The Chrisley Knows Best star expressed her desire to have Julie, 51, home by Thanksgiving so she can focus on Todd’s legal issues.
“We’re pleased that the Court agreed that Julie’s sentence was improper, but we’re obviously disappointed that it rejected Todd’s appeal,” said Alex Little, the Chrisleys’ attorney, in a statement to PEOPLE.
Julie’s sentence for the couple’s 2019 indictment on tax evasion, conspiracy, and bank and wire fraud was thrown out on June 21 due to insufficient evidence. However, Todd’s conviction was upheld. This mixed outcome left Savannah feeling bittersweet.
Voicing her frustration with the legal system, Savannah said, “What’s so sad about this whole thing is that you’re literally negotiating with the devil. The government, they have a 97, 98% conviction rate. Why is that? That is because they scare people into entering into a plea agreement. They have unlimited resources. They can fight you till the very end.”
Despite their legal challenges, Todd and Julie reported to prison in January 2023 after their appeal was submitted late in 2022. Initially set to serve a combined 19 years, their sentences were reduced by nearly two years in September 2023. Savannah remains hopeful for further positive developments, as the family plans to challenge the couple’s convictions based on the illegal search that initiated the case.
Meanwhile, Savannah continues to care for her younger siblings, Grayson and Chloe, who is Todd’s son Kyle Chrisley’s biological daughter.
