Meredith Grey Returning To Grey Sloan Memorial For Season 21
Dr. Meredith Grey will be making more appearances at Grey Sloan Memorial, as Ellen Pompeo, who stars as Meredith on Grey’s Anatomy, will appear in seven episodes of the show’s upcoming 21st season.
Fans of the long-running medical drama will recall that Meredith resigned from her job at the hospital after Catherine Fox, played by Debbie Allen, discovered her secret Alzheimer’s research at the end of season 20. This controversy also involved Teddy Altman ( played by Kim Raver), Amelia Shepherd (played by Caterina Scorsone), and Owen Hunt (played by Kevin McKidd).
On the personal front, Meredith’s boyfriend, Nick Marsh, portrayed by Scott Speedman, surprised her with a heartfelt gesture. He commended her for “putting everything on the line when you want something” and expressed his desire to be “side-by-side” with her as she faced new challenges.
Despite a scaled-back role in seasons 19 and 20, Ellen, 54, remained an executive producer on the series and continued to provide the iconic opening and closing voiceovers for each episode.
In June 2023, during Variety’s Actors on Actors series, Pompeo spoke with former Grey’s co-star Katherine Heigl about her character’s future. “I will be making some appearances hopefully next year, if I can find some time. It’s not a complete goodbye. And I think we’ve got an interesting story to tell,” she revealed.
In April, ABC announced Grey’s Anatomy was renewed for season 21, extending its record as the longest-running primetime medical drama and the network’s longest-running primetime scripted series. The show’s official Instagram page shared the exciting news with a playful post: “Push (twenty) one of epi! 😉 #GreysAnatomy will be coming back for another season on ABC!”
