Rob Delaney Shares Surprising Details About Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine Physique
Hugh Jackman’s dedication to his Wolverine physique has left his Deadpool & Wolverine co-stars, including Rob Delaney, in awe. Rob, who plays Peter “Sugar Bear” in the upcoming third Deadpool movie, shared his amazement on Virgin Radio UK on July 11.
Rob, 47, was particularly struck by Hugh’s athletic build and rigorous workout routine.
“Hugh Jackman, right? He’s so ripped and muscular and often shirtless, and he’s a very nice guy. I thought that the superhero muscles in these movies were like cosmetics. Not that they weren’t literally on your body, but that they were more about show than strength,” he stated.
Rob, who starred alongside Ryan in the first two Deadpool movies, was clearly impressed by Hugh’s commitment, as witnessing Hugh’s workout regimen firsthand between takes was an eye-opener for him.
“Hugh Jackman would routinely drop to the floor and do press-ups. I saw him do 800 press-ups in one day, and they’re slow and perfect form,” he said, adding, “So literally, if a bus fell on you and he was there, you wouldn’t have to worry. He would promptly remove it from you and you’d be okay.”
Hugh, who starred as Wolverine in eight X-Men movies, had planned to retire from the role after 2017’s Logan. However, in a joint interview with Ryan Reynolds, he told PEOPLE he was “thrilled” to reprise the character, despite his body feeling “a little sore at the beginning.”
The actor admitted that while he was happy his body still responded well to the training, the increased diet was the hardest part. “I have to eat a lot. For me, for my body type, I’m naturally skinny. To get the size on, that’s the hardest bit. That’s the bit that does my head in,” he shared further.
Ryan, who plays Wade Wilson/Deadpool and previously worked with Jackman on X-Men Origins: Wolverine, echoed the sentiment, saying, “Yeah, the five, six meals a day, which sounds great to some people. I’m sure they’re like, ‘Well, that sounds great.’ But it’s not like the type of food that you would really necessarily enjoy.”
Ryan also praised Hugh’s dedication to his stunts and choreography, highlighting his “relentlessness.”
Fans can look forward to seeing Hugh’s impressive physique and dedication in action when the third Deadpool movie hits theaters.
