The Office Cast Still Haunted By Steve Carell’s Emmy Snubs
The cast of The Office is still reeling from the fact that Steve Carell, who brought the iconic Michael Scott to life, never won an Emmy for his role. Despite being nominated six times for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, Stave never took home the award, a fact that still bothers his former castmates.
Creed Bratton, who played a fictionalized version of himself on the show, recently expressed his frustration during an interview on Audacy’s AM 560 Sports WQAM on July 12. “There were other people who were against him – there was no comparison. That’s a travesty,” Bratton, 81, lamented.
“So that’s still a bone of contention. I’m chewing it boys, I’m gnawing on it,” he added.
Creed praised Steve, now 61, as a comedic genius and one of the nicest people you could meet. “You can ask anybody on the show,” he added, highlighting the high regard in which Steve is held by his peers.
In 2011, after Steve was nominated one final time and lost to Jim Parsons of The Big Bang Theory, Rainn Wilson, who played Dwight Schrute, took to Twitter to voice his disappointment. “The world of TV should be ashamed of itself that Steve Carell never won an Emmy for Michael Gary Scott. Goodnight,” Rainn, 58, tweeted.
Steve left The Office after seven seasons in 2011. Reflecting on his time on the show during a March 2023 episode of the Office Ladies podcast, he described his departure as “incredible” and emotionally rich.
“It was time for other characters to step to the forefront and other storylines to be pursued,” he said. “The timing was right, I think for everybody, but simultaneously there’s just a sense of joy for me that we had experienced all of this and we were getting… I was getting a chance to take a lap with everybody.”
Steve returned one last time for the series finale, a moment that was kept secret from most of the cast. John Krasinski, who played Jim Halpert, recalled on Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey’s podcast in May how the reveal was a surprise. “The whole Steve reveal was kind of a big reveal for us, too. His appearance was huge,” John said.
Jenna, who portrayed Pam Beesly, added, “He told us very close to when it was gonna happen. I think he got you, me, and Rainn aside, John, and he told us a couple of days before, but then he — he swore us to secrecy.”
