Channing Tatum Celebrates Ryan Reynolds For Career Support And Reviving His Gambit Dream
Channing Tatum recently took to Instagram to express his deep gratitude for Ryan Reynolds. On July 29, the 44-year-old actor shared an emotional post reflecting on their friendship and Ryan’s significant role in helping him bring Gambit to life in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Channing posted two photos – one from their appearance at San Diego Comic-Con in 2015 and a recent shot from the same event on July 25, 2024. Remarkably, Channing was wearing the same Gambit shirt in both images. “These pictures are almost 10 years apart to the day,” he noted.
Recalling their first Comic-Con together, Channing shared, “I sat in the audience when Ryan showed his first peek of Deadpool 1 to the world. I think I ran backstage right after, hugged him, and said, ‘Holy s—, you did it, man. It’s perfect.'”
He admitted that he didn’t know Ryan well back then, but over the years, their bond strengthened significantly. “…There is almost no one that has had my back in this industry more than Ryan,” Channing added.
In his heartfelt post, Channing recounted the disappointment of losing his dream standalone Gambit movie when Disney bought Fox in 2019. “I thought I had lost Gambit forever. But he fought for me and Gambit. I will owe him probably forever. I’m not sure how I could ever do something that would be equal to what this has meant to me. I love ya, buddy,” he shared.
He also gave a shoutout to Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy, calling him a “brilliant creator on every single level.”
Channing praised the movie, calling it “a masterpiece” and “pure badass joy,” revealing that he was “literally screaming in the theater.”
Ryan acknowledged Channing’s post and shared it on his Instagram Stories, writing, “Imagine having a front row seat to this guy. He’s not only a once in a generation talent but he’s a genuinely good man. I know what it feels like to will a character into existence. Chan did that. And then put the most vivid version of that character on the screen like he was born to play this one guy.”
Reflecting on their shared Comic-Con experiences, the Deadpool actor added humorously, “We’ve shared two San Diego Comic-Cons. Two of the best days in my life happened while @channingtatum wore this shirt. Coincidence or conspiracy?” He concluded the post with a playful poll for his followers.
