Nyjah Huston And Jagger Eaton Celebrate Olympic Medals And Friendship
Nyjah Huston and Jagger Eaton have a bond that goes way back. The two skateboarding stars have been shredding together for years, and their camaraderie was on full display when they took home silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the men’s street skateboarding event at the Paris Olympics on July 29.
After their victories, both skaters were full of praise for each other while speaking to reporters at the event. Jagger, 23, expressed deep admiration for Nyjah, 29, saying, “My relationship with Nyjah is really like my big brother.”
Jagger, hailing from Arizona, credits Nyjah with inspiring him as a skater. “I would really say that I dedicate a lot of my tricks, a lot of my competitive drive, to him,” Jagger shared.
Reflecting on their past competitions, Jagger recalled finishing second behind Nyjah at the 2018 ESPN X Games. “In my eyes, he was the first skateboarder who really embraced competition, and to be out there with him, you know, it’s a testament to what he’s done for the sport,” he said.
Nyjah, a Davis, California native, who earned his first Olympic medal with the bronze, had nothing but high praise for Jagger. According to him, Jagger is “such an insane competitor.”
“You can just tell the way that he handles the pressure out there and carries himself. He’s really meant to be doing what he’s doing out there,” Nyjah said of Jagger before going on to highlight his consistency, noting that this silver in Paris is Jagger’s second Olympic medal after winning bronze in the same event in Tokyo in 2021.
“This is his second medal now, so that just goes to show how good of a skateboarder he is and how consistent he is,” he added.
The two skaters have been enjoying their time together in Paris, much like they did during their first Olympic experience in Tokyo. “We’re homies, you know, we’ve been kicking it on this trip, we kicked it a bunch at the last one in Tokyo, we had some sessions back home at my park and some other places before coming out here,” Nyjah shared.
Beyond their individual successes, he emphasized the supportive nature of the skateboarding community, saying, “We all love skating with each other. There are very few guys out there that I’m not homies with, and that’s what skateboarding is all about, man. We all love feeding off each other’s energy.”
While every skater is “obviously out there trying to do our best” in competitions, Huston described skating as “the best thing on earth” and reminded everyone that “at the end of the day, skateboarding is all about having fun.”
