A$AP Rocky Stands Firm On Raising His Kids With Rihanna: “They’re Still Human Beings”
A$AP Rocky isn’t one to back down when it comes to raising his children with his partner, pop superstar Rihanna. The couple, who recently took a well-deserved family vacation, are parents to two young sons — 2-year-old Riza and Riot, who just turned 1.
During a recent interview with Billboard, Rocky, 35, had an exchange with a reporter who questioned whether his kids could ever experience the same kind of upbringing he had in Harlem, New York. The reporter suggested that as children of celebrities, they might be sheltered from certain realities. But Rocky wasn’t having it.
“Yes, they do,” Rocky asserted. The conversation quickly escalated as Rocky passionately defended his parenting style. “Man, let me show you little RZA last night, bro,” he said, pulling out his phone to show a video of his son. “Look, this is my little man right here.”
When the reporter suggested that A$AP Rocky and Rihanna’s kids wouldn’t be walking to a corner store in the middle of the night like he did growing up, Rocky fired back, “Why the f*** not?…But they’re still human. Like, they’re human beings man.”
Rocky emphasized that despite their fame, his children are just like any other kids. To prove his point, he showed the reporter a clip of RZA doing exactly what the reporter doubted — walking to a corner store.
The conversation then took a lighter turn as Rocky shared some of the challenges of parenting young kids. He revealed that while he and Rihanna might be global music icons, their children have their own preferences — particularly when it comes to music. Right now, their little ones are obsessed with the popular kids’ show CoComelon.
“That st is driving me nuts!” Rocky confessed, though he quickly joked, “Don’t tell my girl I said that. I’m totally joking. I don’t give a st. She’s tired of it, too, probably.”
Despite the chaos that comes with raising two young boys, Rocky and Rihanna have found a way to make it work. Rocky recently shared a glimpse into their lives on social media, celebrating Riot’s first birthday on August 1 with a heartfelt post: “HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY TO MY 2ND BORN SON RIOT ROSE MAYERS ❤️.”
Reflecting on their relationship, Rocky praised Rihanna, 36, for her understanding and support amidst their busy schedules. “It’s crazy how we find balance with our chaotic schedules. I don’t think there’s a more perfect person because when the schedules are hectic, she’s very understanding of that. And when the schedule’s freed up, that’s when you get to spend [the] most time together. It’s all understanding and compatibility,” he stated.
