Aubrey Plaza Confesses She’s Never Watched The White Lotus Despite Starring In It
Aubrey Plaza, known for her quirky humor and deadpan delivery, recently dropped a surprising confession: she’s never actually watched The White Lotus, even though she starred in its critically acclaimed second season. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, the 40-year-old actress revealed the amusing reason behind this unexpected revelation.
“I’m going to,” Aubrey assured, before admitting, “To be honest, I had trouble opening my HBO Max account when I was trying to watch it originally. I couldn’t figure out the password, and I usually just give up when I can’t figure out the passwords. I just can’t handle things like that.”
And in true Aubrey fashion, she added with a laugh, “I’d love a DVD, but they don’t send DVD sets anymore. I ask them every time.”
Aubrey’s role as Harper, an uptight attorney married to a wealthy but naive businessman, Ethan (played by Will Sharpe), earned her widespread praise. Despite her impressive performance, it seems Aubrey relates to Harper more than fans might expect.
“Probably my White Lotus character,” she said when asked which role she connects with most. “I mean in a lot of ways — not in every way. She was a lawyer like my mom, and there were some connections there.”
Getting into character for The White Lotus involved more than just acting for Aubrey — it was practically a survival mission. She half-joked about her process being about “survival,” before adding with her trademark humor, “So much linguine and clams. They demanded it, in fact, that we eat linguine and clams twice a day. It was some kind of psychological conditioning.”
While Aubrey may have missed out on watching her own season, fans are eagerly awaiting the return of The White Lotus for its third season, which promises a fresh setting in Thailand and a brand-new cast. The upcoming season will feature Walton Goggins in the lead role, alongside stars like Michelle Monaghan, Leslie Bibb, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Parker Posey, and season 1 favorite Natasha Rothwell.
Walton, who is currently deep into filming, teased what’s to come, hinting that season 3 will be something truly special. “Mike [White] himself has said what he’s said about season one and what that represents and what season two represents. Season 3, without putting words in his mouth, will represent something very, very, very specific and, for my money, will resonate deeply to a very big audience, and certainly with the fans of what he does,” the actor said.
