Lady Gaga Credits Fiancé Michael Polansky For Helping Her Find Real Happiness
Lady Gaga, the pop icon and Oscar-nominated actress, is in a much better place these days, and she credits her fiancé, Michael Polansky, for helping her get there. At 38, the Joker: Folie à Deux star shared in an interview with Vogue for their October cover that her mental health has improved significantly since her last album, Chromatica, was released in 2020 — and it’s all thanks to Polansky.
“I had never met anyone like Michael,” Gaga revealed. “He’s so smart and so kind. His life and my life are very different. He’s a private guy, and he’s not with me for any other reason than that we are right for each other.”
For Gaga, this relationship has brought real happiness. “I’m just, like, so happy,” she said.
Gaga opened up about the dark time she experienced during the creation of Chromatica. According to her, it was an absolutely horrible time for her mental health. Years of struggling took a toll on her, but everything started to shift once she met Michael.
“I struggled for, like, many years before that. But everything started to change. Because I had a real friend who saw the ways in which I was unhappy and why. And he wasn’t afraid to truly hold my hand and get to know me on a very deep level,” she revealed.
For Gaga, Michael has become more than just a romantic partner; he’s the missing piece she didn’t know she needed. “The missing piece in my life was having real love,” she said, reflecting on how their relationship has brought balance to her life.
The two began dating after meeting at a friend’s party, and when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, they spent a year together at her Malibu home, growing even closer.
Speaking to Vogue, she reflected, “I’d been so focused on my career since I was a teenager. And the gift of that time was that I got to completely focus on my relationship. I met this totally supportive, loving human being who wanted to get to know me — outside of Lady Gaga.”
Michael, who isn’t in the public eye like Gaga, brought a sense of normalcy to her life. “We had this amazing chapter of a weird kind of normalcy, that’s essential for any relationship to develop in a real way,” he shared, describing their time spent taking walks, making coffee, and hanging out with their dogs.
Gaga’s journey to finding lasting love wasn’t easy. Before meeting Michael, she had high-profile relationships with musician Lüc Carl, fashion designer Matthew “Dada” Williams, and actor Taylor Kinney. She was even engaged twice before, to talent agent Christian Carino and Kinney. But now, she’s hopeful that this relationship with her new partner will stand the test of time.
“I kind of thought I was going to have to do this all by myself — forever,” Gaga admitted, adding, “And that was really scary. Because it’s a big life. And I don’t think anyone really knows what it feels like unless you’re in it. And I don’t have to do this alone anymore.”
