Adam Brody Explains How He And Leighton Meester Keep Love And Hollywood In A Balance
Adam Brody and Leighton Meester-ah, the true meaning of a power couple, both on and off-screen. This dynamic duo, married over a decade, doesn’t believe in drawing too many lines between professional and personal. In an interview with Dax Shepard on his *Armchair Expert* podcast on September 16, Adam, 44, spoke to how he and Leighton, 38 navigate the career worlds together.
“Everything is run through each other. We are each other’s managers, and we also have the same two agents… We are in each other’s s— in that way, and we even did a movie together a couple of years ago,” the actor said.
The couple even acted together in a movie not so long ago. That would be River Wild, their 2023 adventure thriller. For film, they played siblings braving a dangerous white-water rafting trip-miles apart from their real life relationship, yet proof that they can do dramatic roles just as well as tackle whatever life throws at them.
This isn’t their first time working together, either. They starred alongside one another in the 2014 rom-com Life Partners and the ABC sitcom Single Parents. But what happens when the cameras stop rolling? Off-screen, Adam says they continue to lean on each other for advice-especially when it comes to choosing new projects.
Laid-back about the business, Leighton will often startlingly catch Adam off guard with just how little Hollywood savvy she may possess. “She’s charmingly aloof to the business. She will literally not know Seth Rogen’s name, you know what I mean? … It’s f—— great, because it doesn’t diminish her art,” he gushed, adding, “That’s not where she’s focusing, and so she has that outsider quality, and she can come in, but she’s such an artist.”
He calls her a poet, who has a brilliant ability to “get to the heart of a script,” even if she’s not focused on the business details. In his words; “She’s a poet, she has a depth and a read on material that is always illuminating and has a great radar.”
That’s where Adam steps in as the “biz guy.”
He says he’s usually the one scanning the names on a project and figuring out whether it’s a good fit.
“Before we even have read it, I’m like, ‘Oh, these names, these are good names. You probably want to be involved. I haven’t heard of these names. Sounds sketchy. Give it a read. I’m the biz guy.’ But she knows from an intelligent, intuitive way what’s true and what’s lyrical and what’s bulls—.”
The two first met on the set of The Oranges and then got engaged in November 2013. A few months later, in February 2014, they were married in a private ceremony. Today, they have two children – a daughter named Arlo, born in 2015, and a son, born in 2020, although they’ve kept his name private.
They don’t take their marriage for granted whatsoever. In fact, as Leighton explained in an interview with E! News this November 2023, “We just make it work,” she said, adding, “We’re just super lucky, and I think we recognize how lucky we are with one another. We give each other a lot of respect and time and attention and focus. Like, really put our time and energy into a relationship.”
