Sean “Diddy” Combs Undergoing Treatment, Therapy Amid Sex Crime Case, Lawyer Says
Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has been charged with serious criminal charges including sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and transportation to engage in prostitution. The 54-year-old business executive was arrested on Monday, September 16, and formally charged the next day following an indictment by federal authorities.
During an arraignment on September 17, Combs’ attorney, Marc Agnifilo said that the rapper does treatment and therapy, but he would not specify for what due to confidentiality. Marc allowed that Diddy has struggled with substance abuse and toxic relationships among other things.
“Mr. Combs is not a perfect person. There’s been drug use, there’s been toxic relationships – which I think were mutual in their toxicity as these things often are,” Marc stated.
He also said that Diddy should get credit for seeking help at an age when it is hard to do so.
Diddy pleaded not guilty at the hearing but was denied bail. He has remained in custody until his trial. Prosecutors allege that upon his arrest in a Manhattan hotel room, drugs were found in the vicinity.
Emerging details of the indictment are shocking, with accusations that he once forced women to engage in outlandish sex performances, called “freak offs,” sometimes videotaped without their permission.
These incidents allegedly included the use of such drugs as cocaine, ketamine, and oxycodone. A raid on Diddy’s properties earlier in the year uncovered more than 1,000 bottles of baby oil, reportedly connected to these “freak off” affairs.
He is also accused of physical abuse starting in 2009 “by punching, dragging, and throwing objects at [the victims], sometimes in the presence of. witnesses.”
Diddy is set to appear in court on September 18, in an attempt to fight the denial of bail. Meanwhile, the case has also been adjourned for a further conference hearing on Tuesday, September 24.
