Anna Delvey Couldn’t Con the DWTS Judges and Audience!
For several years, Anna Delvey was able to fool the upper crust of New York’s art scene and some tenured banking professionals into believing her lies about being a German heiress. However, her attempt to convince the judges and voting audience of Dancing with the Stars that she’s a good dancer was much more short-lived. In just two weeks, Delvey went from being one of the most talked-about contestants on the show in years to having an acrimonious exit, complete with scathing interviews in its aftermath.
After her elimination on this week’s episode, it seems like Delvey is feeling some type of way about her stint on DWTS. In the run-up to the new season, Delvey’s casting on the show was one of the most hyped elements. How would the scammer take to the stage? In a bedazzled ankle monitor, that’s how!
Throughout Delvey’s run on the show, there was a clear element of absurdism. This was a woman who had already achieved pop culture infamy due to her audacious, multi-year scam. She’s been the subject of crime documentaries and fictional retellings of her story. At the time of her casting, Delvey was officially under house arrest! That’s not the typical resumé of your average dancing show contestant. Because of this unconventional casting choice by the show’s producers, there was indeed a greater level of buzz surrounding the new season of DWTS.
But it turns out, Delvey wasn’t as good at shaking a leg as she was at cashing fraudulent cheques. After two weeks of middling scores (18/30 and 17/30), the judges and DWTS sent her back to her Manhattan apartment where she’s serving out her house arrest. And it seems like Delvey isn’t happy with the rejection.
Speaking to NBC News, Delvey called out the show for using her as a gimmick to boost their ratings. “I feel that the show so obviously used me to drive up the ratings, that they never had any plans to give me any chance to grow and only cared about exploiting me for attention… It was predatory of them to try [to] make me feel inadequate and stupid all while I did get progressively better yet they chose to disregard that.”
It’s clear that despite her early exit from DWTS, Delvey’s belief in her own abilities remains as high as ever!
