Garth Brooks Accused of Sexual Assault by His Hair and Makeup Stylist
American country singer and songwriter Garth Brooks has been accused of rape and sexual assault by a woman who worked as his hair and makeup artist. The unnamed woman who goes by Jane Doe filed a civil lawsuit in the Los Angeles Superior Court, claiming that Brooks violated her before his Grammy Awards tribute performance in October 2019.
In response, the country music singer has filed for a preemptive lawsuit in a Mississippi federal court.
The hair and makeup artist claimed she started working for the singer-songwriter’s then-wife Trisha Yearwood in 1999. By 2017, she was also working for Brooks. She used to travel with Brooks to different venues to prepare him for his performances.
According to the allegations, Brooks first violated her privacy by appearing stark naked in front of her in 2019. At the time, the singer-songwriter allegedly also tried to put the woman’s hands on his genitals.
The alleged rape took place later the very same year when the duo was traveling just by themselves on Brooks’s private jet for his performance in Los Angeles. According to her, Brooks booked only one hotel suite for both of them, appeared naked once they reached the suite, and then proceeded to violate her.
However, he walked off like nothing happened and expected her to do his makeup for his upcoming stage performance.
She also added that Brooks used to share his sexual fantasies with her, send explicit messages, and expose himself to her many times before the rape took place.
She is being represented by Douglas Wigdor, the famous “#metoo” attorney who has earlier fought cases against heavyweights like Harvey Weinstein, Joe Biden, Bill O’Reilly, and others. Wigdor has said that Brooks indulged in systematic sexual harassment by offering the accuser frequent paid work opportunities when she was experiencing financial hardships and then exploiting her.
Brooks has said, “For the last two months, I have been hassled to no end with threats, lies, and tragic tales of what my future would be if I did not write a check for many millions of dollars. It has been like having a loaded gun waved in my face.”
He further added, “I trust the system, I do not fear the truth, and I am not the man they have painted me to be.”
Only further investigations will reveal the truth.
