DDG Opens Up About Split With Halle Bailey: “We’re Forever Family”
DDG is finally speaking out about his recent breakup with Halle Bailey, just days after the rapper shared news of their split. On the October 6 episode of his No Ordinary Podcast, DDG (whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr.) got real about why he thinks people have been extra hard on him since the relationship began.
“I think people just pick on me,” he said, explaining that many didn’t think he belonged in the music industry, and being with someone like Halle made people look at him differently. “People specifically pick on me because for a long time, people feel like I didn’t belong in the industry or the music industry and this and that. That’s what I feel like, especially me being with Halle,” he stated.
“She’s a superstar; she’s the greatest ever. Being around her, I feel like it made a lot of people side-eye me because they had already had… You know, she’s a princess, so they already had their mind set up about her and they look at me and I don’t fit that image,” he explained further.
Despite the challenges, DDG expressed nothing but love for Halle, with whom he shares a 10-month-old son, Halo. “It’s a reason why all of this happened. Me and Halle are forever family, forever,” he said.
Addressing his critics, DDG pointed out that people often take Halle’s side without thinking about how it affects their family, especially their son. “I feel like people should keep that in their head when they talk about us. You’re talking about our family. You need to relax. I feel like y’all don’t consider that at all. If I’m hurting, you know, that can be hurting my baby that you love so much,” he added.
The rapper first confirmed their split on October 3 in a heartfelt message posted to his Instagram Stories. “After much reflection and heartfelt conversations, Halle and I have decided to go our separate ways,” he wrote, adding, “The decision was not easy, but we believe it’s the best path forward for both of us. I cherish the time we’ve spent together and the love we shared.”
He emphasized that while their relationship status has changed, their love for each other remains strong. “We are still best friends and adore each other,” he added.
DDG and Halle’s relationship first became public in early 2022 after they were spotted together at Usher’s Las Vegas residency. By November 2023, rumors of a pregnancy swirled, and by the end of the year, they welcomed their son, Halo.
