Former One Director Member Falls to Death from Buenos Aires Hotel Balcony
Tragedy unfolded at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires when Liam Payne, a former member of the well-loved British boy band One Direction fell to his death from the balcony of his room. The English singer was 31 and is survived by a son named Bear.
Payne was in Argentina to attend his former bandmate Niall Horan’s concert. Local police were already at the 5-star hotel, responding to a call “of an aggressive man who may have been under the effects of drugs and alcohol when tragedy struck. According to sources, the singer’s body was discovered following a loud crashing noise that came from the hotel’s courtyard.
Alberto Crescenti, the Director of Emergency Medical Services said the singer’s body had “serious injuries” and that an autopsy was underway. Investigations into Payne’s death are underway.
While the exact details leading up to the fatal fall remain unknown, tributes have started pouring in. Fans flocked to the luxury hotel soon after the news broke out and waited in long queues to pay their last respects to the star. Many lit candles outside the hotel in his memory. Celebrities acquainted with the singer took to social media to grieve his sudden death.
Payne’s death came as a shocker because he had posted a Snapchat saying, “It’s a lovely day here in Argentina” just hours before the incident took place. But it turns out, the snap was from earlier.
The Wanted’s Max George took to Instagram to say, “Over the last few years I had the pleasure of getting to know him personally and spent some treasured time with him.” George also called Payne’s death “absolutely devastating”.
Payne rose to fame as a part of One Direction, a boy band that was formed on The X Factor TV show. His bandmates included Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik. They went on an indefinite hiatus in 2016.
Since then, most of the members of the boy band have pursued successful independent careers. Payne enjoyed success with the release of his only solo album, Strip That Down, in 2017. The album climbed to the third spot on the Official UK Chart while his collab with singer-songwriter Rita Ora smashed its way into the top ten.
