Prosecutors Claim Diddy Is Attempting To Tamper With Witnesses While In Jail
Federal prosecutors are once again fighting Sean “Diddy” Combs’ bid for bail, claiming the music mogul has been trying to influence witnesses and jurors from behind bars. Diddy, who is facing serious charges including sex trafficking and racketeering, has been in jail since his pre-trial release was denied earlier this year.
In a filing late Friday, prosecutors argued that Diddy has made repeated attempts to contact potential witnesses, including victims of alleged abuse, using other inmates’ phone codes and third-party services. They pointed to a specific instance in October when Diddy reportedly called one of his sons, raising concerns that he was trying to manipulate or intimidate those who could testify against him.
Prosecutors also accused Diddy of attempting to control how the public perceives his case. They pointed to a video posted on Instagram by Diddy’s son, Justin, showing the family singing happy birthday to Diddy on the phone during his 55th birthday on November 4. According to prosecutors, the rapper was involved in planning the video’s release and actively monitored the response to it, hoping it would sway potential jurors.
These latest motions come after Diddy’s legal team filed for another bail hearing, arguing that the prosecution’s case is weak. His lawyers maintain that the allegations against him, including a 2016 video showing Diddy assaulting a woman, stem from a consensual relationship, not the coerced “freak offs” the indictment claims. They have proposed home detention with strict monitoring as an alternative to jail while he awaits trial.
Diddy, who is currently being held in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, faces charges stemming from his alleged role in orchestrating sex performances involving both men and women. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. His trial is scheduled to begin in May 2025.
