Rachelle Lefevre Reveals How Holiday Prep Always Ends In Leftovers
For Holidazed star Rachelle Lefevre, the holidays are a time of love, tradition — and a little too much food. “I have a problem where I have so much anxiety about whether or not everybody’s going to have enough to eat,” the 45-year-old actress shared during a conversation with PEOPLE.
“My husband’s a chef, he knows exactly how much food you need to buy for exactly how many people, and he tries to rein me in every year. I can’t shop properly. I just can’t do it. We have people over and then I look around at all the food and I’m like, ‘What did I do?’ And he’s like, ‘You did it again,’” she added.
This over-prepping comes with its own challenges – “the guilt that I know is going to come with all the leftovers.”
“I have to beg everybody to take leftovers. So now when I go Chrismukkah shopping, Tupperware is on my grocery list because I know I’m going to send everybody home with food on the way out,” she stated.
This holiday chaos feels right at home in Rachelle’s new series, Holidazed, streaming now on Hallmark+. The show follows Rachelle as Sylvie Woods, a woman returning home for Hanukkah and clashing with her sister Lucy (played by Lindy Booth). Their relationship has been strained since the death of their mom, but the show weaves heartwarming moments into the family drama.
For Rachelle, the project was especially meaningful because it let her celebrate her Jewish heritage while embracing the joy of Chrismukkah. “I’m Jewish and my mom’s Jewish. My bio dad wasn’t Jewish, so we do Chrismukkah at our house,” she explained.
Playing opposite Lindy, who Rachelle describes as her “sister for life,” only added to the fun. “In the first five minutes, I was like, ‘Oh, yeah. We could have been sisters,’” the actress says. She recalls a moment early in their friendship when Booth gave her a very serious warning.
As she explained: “…she said to me, very seriously — it got really eye contact-y — she was like, ‘I have to tell you. I take Christmas very seriously.’ I was like, ‘I don’t know what that means.’ That was so oddly specific.”
Lindy, 45, jokes that she and Rachelle were “possibly separated at birth” but adds that their on-screen characters are anything but alike. According to her, both characters “are two sides of the same coin.”
Rachelle loved the chance to explore these family dynamics, especially since they hit close to home. dding, “And I have sisters in real life, so not only did I get to do the sister dynamic, but then also we got to do Chrismukkah. It was a lot of fun, for me, bringing things in my life that I really cared about and actually had strong feelings about to our scenes,” she said.
