Adam Brody Reveals How Nobody Wants This Changed Everything
Adam Brody is basking in the spotlight after his breakout role in Netflix’s hit rom-com Nobody Wants This. The 45-year-old actor, known for his iconic The O.C. days, has found a whole new audience — and a new nickname: “The Hot Rabbi.”
During the Golden Globes First-Time Nominees Luncheon on Dec. 17, Adam spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about how the series has reshaped his career. “I’ve gotten a lot of interesting stuff. My email is fuller than it was,” he joked, reflecting on the doors the show has opened.
The Erin Foster-created series pairs Adam’s character, Noah — a newly single rabbi — with Kristen Bell’s Joanne, a single, agnostic sex podcaster. Sparks fly after the two meet through mutual friends, leading to a storyline that fans and critics have praised for its humor, depth, and steamy on-screen chemistry.
Adam revealed he had no idea the show would resonate so widely. Speaking to PEOPLE in November, he said, “I knew that we had something that worked, but I had no idea the sort of wide swath of people that would enjoy it. That has been an absolute pleasant surprise. I’ve been doing this a long time, and it doesn’t happen often, whoever you are. So it’s very gratifying and exciting.”
On being dubbed “The Hot Rabbi,” Adam said that it feels good even though he does not get called the name often to his face.
“That’s mostly happening elsewhere online, so it’s like it’s happening to another person. But I’m not mad at it,” he stated.
Season 1 of Nobody Wants This premiered in September and has already been renewed for a second season. While Adam hasn’t started diving into the scripts, he admitted, “I don’t want to read them yet. If I do, I’ll start working on it in my head, and I want to keep that fresh for when we’re actually on set.”
Filming the series was an unforgettable experience for Adam. “It sounds cheesy, but it was so fun to film. It was so fun to make actually, and it was such a good time with a good group of people that to now be here celebrating it after the fact is an embarrassment of riches.”
As for what’s next, Adam is keeping his options open. “If I’m looking to not do something, it’s probably nothing that is too similar to the show. Other than that, quality of writing is a precious jewel and anything well-written, anyone would be lucky to do it,” he explained.
