Jessica Simpson Confirms Split From Eric Johnson After 10 Years Of Marriage: “Our Kids Come First”
Jessica Simpson is stepping into a new chapter of her life. On January 13, the 44-year-old singer and businesswoman confirmed her separation from husband Eric Johnson, marking the end of their decade-long marriage.
In a heartfelt statement to PEOPLE, Jessica shared, “Eric and I have been living separately, navigating a painful situation in our marriage.”
“Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all the love and support that has been coming our way and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”
While the announcement might feel sudden to fans, a source close to the couple revealed that the two have been separated for some time. “They have already figured out a new schedule for the kids,” the insider shared, adding that “Jess is doing OK.”
Jessica and Eric, who tied the knot in 2014, share three kids: daughters Maxwell “Maxi” Drew (12) and Birdie Mae (5), and son Ace Knute (11). Despite the split, both parents remain committed to co-parenting. “The kids will always come first. They are co-parenting. She’s grateful for her kids,” the source added.
The breakup comes as Jessica gears up for a major musical comeback. In a recent Instagram post, the Take My Breath Away singer hinted at how personal this new era of her career will be.
“Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic. This comeback is personal. It’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve,” she captioned the post.
Jessica’s journey back to music seems to reflect a period of self-discovery and healing. Her last public acknowledgment of Eric was in September 2023, when she wished him a happy 44th birthday on Instagram. Just a month before that, Jessica opened up about their marriage in an interview with PEOPLE, praising Eric’s support of her demanding career.
“He knows my heart and understands my heart more than anyone I’ve ever met in my life,” she said at the time.
She added that their relationship has always felt “easy” and that they have managed to keep the romance alive, even with three kids.
