Ryan Gosling In Talks To Join The “Star Wars” Universe – What We Know So Far

Ryan Gosling, fresh off his iconic portrayal of Ken in Barbie, may be trading the Dreamhouse for a galaxy far, far away. The actor is reportedly in talks to star in an upcoming Star Wars film directed by Shawn Levy, known for Deadpool and Wolverine. The news, first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, has fans buzzing about Ryan’s potential debut in the legendary sci-fi franchise.
Shawn, 56, has been developing the untitled Star Wars project for over two years. Writing duties are shared with Jonathan Tropper, his collaborator on This Is Where I Leave You and The Adam Project. While specific plot details remain under wraps, sources indicate the movie will be a standalone story within the expansive Star Wars universe. Shawn will produce the film under his 21 Laps banner, alongside Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.
Ryan’s interest in the project could reportedly shake up Shawn’s schedule. The director was previously considering a boy band movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, but if the Barbie actor officially signs on, the Star Wars film may take priority.
This wouldn’t be Ryan’s first foray into science fiction. He starred in the critically acclaimed Blade Runner 2049 alongside Harrison Ford, a Star Wars legend known for his role as Han Solo.
Ryan’s cinematic resume is impressive, with Oscar-nominated performances in Half Nelson, La La Land, and Barbie. His next project, Project Hail Mary, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, is slated for release in March 2026.
When it comes to choosing roles, Ryan has been clear about prioritizing his family. In an interview with WSJ. Magazine in May 2024, he shared that being a father to his daughters, Esmeralda, 10, and Amada, 8, with partner Eva Mendes, has influenced his decision to avoid darker roles.
“The decisions I make, I make them with Eva and we make them with our family in mind first,” he said.
The next Star Wars film on the horizon is The Mandalorian and Grogu, set to hit theaters on May 22, 2026. Fans are eager to see what Levy’s standalone project brings to the saga, especially with a star like Ryan potentially at the helm.
