Rihanna is not here for AI faking her voice —and she made sure to let the internet know.
On February 5, the music and fashion mogul, 36, called out a viral video that appeared to feature her voice narrating a list of her most expensive purchases. The clip, posted by @thescrolltv on Jan. 31, made it seem like Rihanna was discussing her lavish lifestyle, from a $13.8 million Beverly Hills mansion to a $1 million crystal-covered piano. But there was just one problem — it wasn’t her.
“Who TF is this talking??!” Rihanna commented under the video, instantly catching the attention of fans. The account quickly pinned her response, confirming that the voice was AI-generated.
A week before Rihanna’s comment, another user had already called it out, writing, “AI generated,” to which @thescrolltv admitted, “Yes, it is.”
The video used clips from a 2023 press conference ahead of Rihanna’s Super Bowl halftime show, altering the context to make it sound like she was answering questions about her personal spending.
This isn’t the first time AI has caused problems for celebrities. In August 2024, Tom Hanks, 68, warned fans about online ads using AI to fake his voice and likeness to promote health products. “These ads have been created without my consent, fraudulently and through AI,” he stated, making it clear he had nothing to do with them.
Scarlett Johansson also took legal action in November 2023 after discovering that an AI app, Lisa AI, had used her voice and image for an ad without permission. She quickly sent a cease-and-desist letter to stop the unauthorized use of her likeness.
Despite AI controversies, Rihanna is keeping busy with her real voice. She’s set to star as Smurfette in the upcoming Smurfs movie, slated for a 2025 release. And if that’s not exciting enough, a trailer released on Feb. 6 confirmed that new music from Rihanna will be featured on the soundtrack.
