Selena Gomez Gets Tongues Wagging Over Slimmer Figure At SAG Awards Appearance

Selena Gomez turned heads at the 2024 SAG Awards in a stunning, form-fitting Celine gown. But while fans praised her elegant look, some social media users were quick to speculate about her noticeably slimmer figure.
As whispers of weight loss medications like Ozempic spread online, Selena didn’t hesitate to set the record straight. The Only Murders in the Building star has been open about her health struggles, revealing that her weight fluctuates due to her lupus medication and a condition called SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth).
She previously addressed the issue in a now-deleted TikTok comment back in November 2024. “This makes me sick,” she wrote. “I have SIBO in my small intestine. It flares up.”
Selena has made it clear that she refuses to let body shamers define her. “I don’t care that I don’t look like a stick figure. I don’t have that body. End of story,” she stated. “No, I am NOT a victim. I’m just human.”
SIBO occurs when the movement of food and waste slows down in the digestive tract, creating an overgrowth of bacteria. Symptoms can include bloating, stomach pain, and even malnutrition, according to the Mayo Clinic.
The Emilia Perez actress has been candid about her struggles with body image in the past. She once admitted that cruel online comments made her cry her “eyes out,” but now she chooses self-love over negativity. “I’m not perfect, but I am proud to be who I am,” she wrote on Instagram.
In 2023, Selena explained that her lupus medication often causes her to retain water weight. She encouraged fans to embrace their own bodies, saying, “And yeah, we have days where maybe we feel like s***, but I would much rather be healthy and take care of myself.”
When it comes to body shaming, she has one simple message for the haters: “Go away.”
“…I don’t believe in shaming people for [their] body or anything,” she stated. “So, yeah, not a model. Never will be. And I think they’re awesome — mind you — I just, I’m definitely not that.”
After her recent red carpet appearances, plastic surgeon Dr. Dennis Schimpf weighed in on her transformation, telling Daily Mail that while Selena is “definitely thin,” she doesn’t look unhealthy. He believes her slimmer figure could be a result of lifestyle changes rather than medication.
