Drew Barrymore’s Ex Tried To Move His Mom In — Indefinitely!

Drew Barrymore just revealed that she’s no stranger to awkward living arrangements. During the “Drew’s News” segment on The Drew Barrymore Show on Tuesday, April 1, she shared a hilarious yet cringeworthy story about an ex-boyfriend who had the bright idea to move his mom into their home — forever.
Drew, 50, was chatting with Valerie Bertinelli and Ross Mathews about a viral PEOPLE report where a woman called off her wedding after finding out her fiancé secretly bought a house with his mother. Valerie, 64, summed up the internet’s reaction, saying, “..when you get married you want a partner, not a landlord with a live-in mom.”
Ross, 45, jumped in with a cheeky warning: “My advice to her is if you move in with him and the mom, just be careful you don’t trip over the umbilical cord, okay? Because it’s still there.”
That’s when Drew dropped her own wild story. She recalled how she was over the moon about moving in with one of her first boyfriends in a cute little house in Los Feliz, California. “We get the most cute little house in Los Feliz, California. I’m like, ‘I’m gonna be a hipster with my live-in boyfriend. Oh my God, I’m Mary Tyler Moore!”” she joked.
But then, her boyfriend hit her with a bombshell: “By the way, my mom is going to come stay with us.” Drew, trying to stay cool, asked how long. He replied, “Like maybe forever, indefinitely. She’s gonna move in with us.”
Drew’s reaction? Immediate survival mode. “I literally go, ‘I gotta go. I gotta go. Are you out of your mind? Your mother? Have I met your mother?’ He’s like, ‘No.’ And I’m like, ‘So I don’t know your mother,’ and he’s like, ‘No, I think you’ll be fine.’ I’m like, ‘I have mother issues! I’m leaving. Here’s my laundry basket. I’m out.'” Drew made a clean getaway, laundry basket in hand.
The Charlie’s Angels star has always been open about her love life and dating mishaps on her talk show, which is gearing up for a sixth season. On the March 24 episode, she shared another relatable dating disaster. Drew said she went on a first date, texted the guy afterward, and got ghosted — well, sort of.
“We went back and forth twice, and then he ended with, ‘Haaaaa.’ And I haven’t heard anything since,” she recalled, baffled.
The 50 First Dates actress was clearly unimpressed, saying, “I would never do that. It doesn’t cross my mind to behave like that. Like, if you put a fishing pole in it, why are you not going to follow through?” She added, “It happens to all of us — the best of us. Good people who wouldn’t treat other people like that.”
Drew, who shares two daughters, Olive, 12, and Frankie, 10, with ex-husband Will Kopelman, has been married three times.
