Ellie Goulding Says Her Next Album Has The “Saddest Words” She’s Ever Written

Ellie Goulding is getting heartbreak down to an art and she’s putting it all into music. The 38-year-old singer took to Instagram on June 17 to tease her upcoming album, and fans can expect something emotional, raw, and still deliciously pop. In a message to her followers, Ellie hinted that this could become their “new favourite” record especially if they loved her 2020 album Brightest Blue, which she was also celebrating the anniversary of.

“If you guys liked [Brightest Blue], I fear the next might be your new favourite,” she wrote. “Been working on it for so long. Guitars, bass, strings, harmonies for days, saddest words I ever wrote…”

She added that the new music features some of the “best writers and musicians in the world,” and while it’s totally unique, it’s still full-on pop “because I can’t help myself.” In other words: expect heartbreak, but make it danceable.

Ellie’s fans were quick to flood the post with comments of support and excitement, especially since this will be her first album since 2023’s Higher Than Heaven. But it’s clear this next body of work is more personal and likely inspired by her rollercoaster romantic year.

After privately separating from her husband Caspar Jopling in early 2023, Ellie confirmed the split only after paparazzi photos of her kissing someone new surfaced. She and Caspar, who share a five-year-old son named Arthur, had been married for five years.

Following the end of that marriage, Ellie had a short-lived romance with Costa Rican surf instructor Armando Perez. They met when she was on a New Year’s yoga and surf retreat with friends, and sparks flew during her lessons. But by the end of last year, friends confirmed the relationship had fizzled out.

Now, there’s a new chapter and possibly a new muse. Ellie has reportedly moved on with 28-year-old American actor Beau Minniear. The two were spotted at a high-profile boxing match at Wembley last weekend, watching the Usyk vs. Dubois fight. According to The Sun, they had already teased their connection online, with Ellie posting a flirty TikTok (now deleted) of her stroking a man’s arm. Fans quickly linked the mystery man to Beau right down to matching the watch he wears in his Instagram posts.

It didn’t take long before they also noticed the pair had posted photos from the same luxury hotel in Florence, just days before their public appearance at the match.

A source told The Sun: “Ellie is into Beau and they have a lot of shared interests like exercise and art. They’ve been having fun together and they certainly make for an attractive couple.”

Beau, who has a few acting credits in TV and film, is said to have met Ellie earlier this year. While they haven’t officially confirmed their relationship, fans are already watching closely and reading between every lyric she teases.
